That was when you put “2000” at the end of things to show you were talking about the future…

Of what significance is one’s existence, one is basically unaware. What does a fish know about the water in which he swims all his life?

Power of Truth ~ John Woolman

“My mind, through the power of Truth, was in a good degree weaned from the desire of outward greatness, and I was learning to be content with real conveniences that were not costly; so that a way of life free from much entanglements appeared best for me, though the income was small… I saw that a humble man with the blessing of the Lord, might live on a little; and that where the heart was set on greatness success in business did not satisfy the craving; but that commonly with an increase of wealth, the desire for wealth increased.”

A Nineteenth Century Quaker Benediction

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the Kings and Princes are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flocks

The real work of Christmas begins.

To find the lost

To heal the broken

To feed the hungry

To release the prisoners

To rebuild the nations

To bring peace among brothers

To make music in the heart.

Bayard Rustin
Today is the 100th Anniversary of Bayard Rustin’s birth. I was unaware of Mr. Rustin until the good man Marcus posted this article about him yesterday on Facebook. Rustin was pivotal in the formation of nonviolent social movements that followed World War II and became a staple in the Civil Rights Movement. His efforts paved the way for activists such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. I was a bit upset with myself for not knowing of such an important figure, but I’m happy to now know more about him. Mr. Rustin, thank you for your service.
